History of the Department
The Department of Commerce in this college was started in 1980, the year in which the college was established. The Government of Kerala sanctioned the college as per Order No. 44819 / B3/ 79 Edn. dated 2-7-1980 and the University of Calicut gave affiliation to two pre degree courses (III rd Group with Economics and IV th Group with Commerce) in that year. The college and department of Commerce began functioning in a rented building arranged by the College Sponsoring Committee near Kodanchery town. In 1982, the College and teaching Department were shifted to the semi- permanent buildings constructed by the sponsoring committee in the new college campus, which is 1.5 kms away from the Kodanchery town. The college started functioning in the new three storied building with more facilities in the year 1993-94.
In the year 1998-99, Undergraduate course in Commerce (B.Com) was started with computer application as the elective with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. The Post Graduate Programme in Commerce (M.Com) was started in the academic year 2012-13 with a sanctioned strength of 15 students. Finally the Department is upgraded into a research department in 2019.
