THE STUDENTS’ RAPID RESPONSE FORCE (SRRF)
The Students’ Rapid Response Force (SRRF) is a new initiative of Revenue Department of Kerala State formed under the District Disaster Management Authority, Kozhikode. The main aim of the project is set up a force of students to support the rescue operations during the natural calamities. The official launching of the force was done by the Honorable Revenue minister Sri. E. Chandrasekharan at Kozhikode Collectorate Hall on 23rd December 2017. As a pilot launching of the project, the first batch of SRRF is started in the Government College Kodanchey with a strength of 50 students.
The first phase training of the cadets was given by the Territorial Army, NDRF, Fire and Rescue Force, Kerala Police and Medical Wing in a three days residential camp during 27-29 December 2016 at the college Campus. The second phase of training conducted with the collaboration of Health Care Foundation Disaster Management Team Kerala. Plans have been mooted to provide continuous training to the cadets using the Territorial Army, NDRF and Fire Force at their own centers. For the physical fitness of the Cadets, daily physical exercise programme under the Physical Education Department is being carried out.
The vision of the project is that by the end of intensive training and practice, the SRRF cadets will be able to support the emergency rescue operations and train other cadets when SRRF is extended to different Colleges.
The project is headed by the Deputy Collector in charge of Disaster Management, Kozhikode Sri. B. Abdul Nasir. The Commander in Chief of SRRF is Dr. C P Shaheed Ramzan. The college level SRRF activities are monitored by the SRRF committee consisting of the Principal, Dr.Jobiraj .T , Sri.P.K.Shabeeb, Sri.P.. Shabin , Sri. T D Martin and Mrs.Teena George.
