DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
The department of physics, Govt. College Kodanchery, is established in the year were physics was one of the courses for pre degree course 1981. Bsc physics was started in 1999 and it offers graduate degree, to students of kodanchery and nearby areas experienced faculty of the department is devoted to research in their respective areas of specialization research and teaching are given equal importance by the faculty. Extra care is taken to pay individual attention to the students in their laboratory work and tutorial sessions project work and problem sessions are encouraged to develop innovative and analytical approach to physics learning. Topical seminars by scientists of nearby research institutes are arranged to create research awareness amongst students.
Vision
Vision of the department is to provide a comprehensive undergraduate physics degree program, to prepare students for their future educational and career challenge, to focus on student centered learning using a mixture of traditional, current, and integrative pedagogical techniques and to encourage faculty and student towards research.
Mission
Our mission is to encourage observation and analysis of the natural world and to motivate the students to participate in activities such as seminars, workshops and scientific events to promote scientific outlook. It also includes providing courses that enhance the appreciation of physics for non-physics majors.
Programmes/Courses Offered
The Department offers choice-based credit semester system for the UG Programme B.Sc.Physics Students have the option to elect Arabic, Hindi or Malayalam as second language. The complementary course offered is Mathematics and Chemistry

Interdisciplinary courses and the departments/units involved:
As per CUCBCSS scheme, during fifth semester of UG students have to opt a discipline offered by other departments in the college as open course. Department of Physics offers “Non Convensional energy sources” as its open course to fifth semester students of other programmes.
Student Profile
The sanctioned strength of students for UG course is 30 and a marginal increase is also sanctioned on the basis of the request given by the college. The admission to the course is strictly on the basis of government reservation norms.
